holy crap. my dreamwidth inbox is well over 100. what is this, a tumblr ask blog? 🤣

I've just taken a week off work but I didn't get as much juice out of it as I'd hoped to. Ah well. At least I had a week away. I'll have to figure out the recharging part some other time.

how are you all doing? I've been thinking more thinky thoughts about social media, so expect a ramble about tiktok and filters at some point. And possibly some form of dystopic novella to go with it.

Welcome back! It's a shame you didn't get to rest as much as you needed :c I'd say it's just the sad reality of the pandemic; even when we're resting, the world is still on fire around us 🤔 it's hard to relax fully.

I've been really tired, but trying to get by with a lot of fic--reading and writing!

it'll probably just be a bullet point fic of some kind - well, original work but you know what I mean lol. I don't have the energy for a full on novella but boy howdy do I have ideas for a cyperpunk dystopic murder mystery

Hey!! I've been doing pretty well, considering that I am only a few feet away from hitting writer's block head on lol... but I've been drawing more recently so I don't feel completely unproductive.

yay for drawing! but also remember that you don't actually have to be productive. You're allowed to exist without doing or making anything. 💕

That'll be the skill to learn, lol. I just gotta unlearn everything school taught me about worth and stuff. XD

Drawing still feels like a shiny new skill, so I don't feel pressured even when I'm not drawing well. But I'll try to remind myself to just rest when I'm tired 💖

but it's really a ~fun summer because two of my closest friends are redecorating their apartments with significant amounts of work that they're doing themselves, and i have a can of paint that's been waiting for three+ months, and i have like 2 writing assignments which i haven't touched in weeks, so *shrug* whatever

Hi! A lot of my creative energy right now is directed toward sewing 18" doll clothes (and it's fannish sewing, too!), but I'm idly and mostly subconsciously letting myself process just how toxic fandom and people who just can't help but interact with things they hate has made me afraid to take risks.

*hugs* the sewing sounds amazing. the toxicity and fear much less so. I'm with you though. I don't know htat I want to dive head first into a fandom again right now. Definitely not one with a bunch of people under 25 in it, at least. (ageist, yes, but also that seems to be the demographic who are loudest and most likely to harass)

This is what I made!

My two primary fandoms are Tolkien and Star Wars. Tolkien, at least my parts of it, are calm for the fandom. Star Wars… there is no avoiding drama even though I make an effort. But even existing on Tumblr for the past decade (even the couple of years I flatly refused to have anything to do with fandom on the site; I had a tulips & log cabin-centric blog then) has done a lot of harm due to all the anti and purity culture, villain discourse, and all the other BS. Sometimes I'm honestly not sure being there has done more good than harm.

I've been lucky enough to only see that stuff via the comment blog. I never had to deal with the purity BS on my personal/fandom blog - probably because most of the people I followed were in their 30s or older. But also it feels like things have gotten particularly bad in the last 2-ish years, and I haven't been personal blogging much in that span of time.

I've only ever had the one blog and didn't unfollow people when I switched to non-fandom stuff, so it still appeared on my dash via people refuting it. (If I see someone I follow spouting that nonsense, I'll unfollow, but that hasn't happened.) Yeah, it does seem to have gotten worse in the fairly recent past. Possibly the pandemic and everything else going on made it worse via people trying to control things in a time when they have no control… and without realizing this is yet another thing they can't control.

Currently, trying to get my apartment clean. Not exactly thrilling, but necessary.

I'm always up for a dystopian novella!

I am very interested in those thinky thoughts. I'm still mostly only familiar with TikTok through vids on tumblr (and the occasional "scary side of TikTok" explanation videos on youtube).

Yeah, I kind of regret making a tik tok because I really dislike having the app on my phone, but at the same time there's definitely a need to teach the kids how to use ao3 so they don't go barging around the site making life worse for people. so... yeah.

Plus, there's tons of people who love and use ao3 just fine but have no idea what all it's capable of, and also plenty of young people who want to try ao3 but are too intimidated or confused to get past the first page

It's always funny how spending a week away from work does or doesn't feel like time's passed. Unplugging is really difficult.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Fanlore because I’ve been getting super into it recently (recently being most of 2021) and how while I think it’s something worth doing it’s kind of overwhelming to do and I should try to take a break from thinking about it so much.

And maybe when I “come back” something will have changed with all these internal rules I put on myself. (I like the idea of Fanlore but Permanent Changes freak me out a little?)

I hate when time off winds up feeling less than refreshing. :/

Social media has been giving me LOTS of thoughts lately, maybe especially after the tumblr paid post stuff. I don't know that my thoughts are well-organized or anything, but they're there and full of despair, lol.
