I made a post about how to block others a while back. Someone created a block list of just the ID numbers, no author names and no reasoning beyond "these creators are racist"
People on the other side came back with "you know who else used ID numbers" etc and yes, used the word Nazi.
It's a fucking mess and I don't want to have to deal with that so I'm deleting and blocking as I can.
In another post, there's a war being waged about whether or not written smut about underage characters is "literal child porn" so you can imagine my notes right now.

Y'know, I figured with fandom being fandom that it would be asinine. I had no idea it would be that stupid. BIGGEST of yikes for that, ugh. I wish Tumblr gave us muting powers over notes like some other platforms did.

there actually are a couple of basically browser skin style apps out there. Archive Track Reader is the only name I can remember.
They're made by independent fans, not anyone connected to the OTW so be careful on that score, but I've heard good things from people who use them?

LOL same-sies. I bought tokens even (not that they were very expensive) but never actively used it. It didn't have that sense of community yet. And since I don't create much, it's not like I'd draw more Fandom people over.
Nostalgia is surely part of it, but I love the slow back and forth. It's a welcome change from chats like Discord. And being able to actually have a conversation without spamming the followers!!

We're just back to a great entrance barrier for people who don't understand skins. It requires realizing skins are an option, creating an account, finding one you like, finding the tutorial, doing the work,... a lot of effort and some technical know-how, especially when you want desktop and mobile views to differ. It would be cool if the standard mobile skin were even more mobile friendly :) And some things you can't do with skins alone. Although CSS has come a long way.

And there's rather more control over what goes on in the comments of your posts...although people did used to kick off on LJ on a regular basis, I don't really remember it being quite as asinine as it can be on Tumblr. (on the other hand, most of the famous fandom wanks happened during my first stretch of time in fandom and I don't remember witnessing any of them, even the ones that happened in fandoms I was in XDDD so I'm probably not a reliable narrator here)

Generally I've met people on here by noticing them commenting on other people's posts and checking out their journals, or through fandom events.
But one thing you might be interested in, which I don't think has been mentioned so far, issunshine_challenge, which is an annual event coming up in July. It's basically a big community-building thing where there are prompts and everyone's encouraged to go look at everybody else's posts in response to them. I've met tons of people through that over the last couple of years. (snowflake_challenge is similar and runs in January.)

Hey, is 'Amy Lowell' someone associated with AO3? Stamps.com tells me Amy is sending me a package and the only thing I can think of that might be coming to me would be from AO3 due to the membership drive.

Hey! Also followed over from Tumblr (via ao3cotd). I dusted off my DW at the beginning of this year, and it has absolutely been a huge breath of fresh air to me as well. I was on LJ a decade ago, and I've missed the long-form posting ability, as well as not feeling like *everything* you say is being flung to the wilds. (Plus no ads. It's amazing what a difference that makes.)
There is definitely a decent fandom presence here still, depending on what fandoms. (Huge fandoms or slightly older ones like SG1 seem to have more.) I'd love for there to be more, though!

i also followed from tumblr (ultraviollettt), i havent had an account before but i had a hyperfixation on social media sites (specifically nonprofit ones) so im super glad you posted about it! I want more interaction, just like you said on tumblr, but i need to work on being anxious about every post i make lol.

I was on LJ from 2000 to 2006 or so. I used it more for journalling and keeping up with IRL friends than I did for fandom, but I read a few fandom communities. I was a lot more of a lurker than a creator back then, though.
It's good to come back. The slower pace and increased control over audience (and reading page!) is so so so so nice.

I remember hearing something about an LJ clone years ago and then it came up in some fandom conversations here and there a few years back. It was when I started volunteering with Fanlore that I got more exposure because Fanlore has an account here where they post challenges and things.
I've been vaguely considering making an account for a while now and this week I decided to just fuckin' do it already lol. The last thing I need in my life is yet another social media account, but at the same time I think this is the potential for community and conversation that I've been talking about lately.

Hi! I follow ao3cotd on tumblr, and I'm here a few days late with no Starbucks. I've had a DW account for a really long time, but I'm not super great at updating here. The last time I was really active with it was when everyone thought tumblr was ending a few years ago and there was a push for rebuilding some community here. I'm glad to have a reason to try again! Hope you are having a good start to your week :)
