good idea/bad idea?

 I think I want to make a post that breaks down the various types of logical fallacy and applies them to anti rhetoric. 

But I also don't want to end up drowning in hate messages again. 

Have we reached an impasse? Or do I write it and post it here where people have a lot more sense - but also fewer people will actually see it?

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that might be a good workaround. People who are interested could read it if they want to and people who are just in it to tell me off probably wouldn't bother to click the link. Right? Hopefully?

It's really hard to say whether people will or won't follow the link. In my experience, people generally won't follow it over, but I'm not a popular Tumblr (thankfully) so I don't know if you'd have a different experience or not.

on Dreamwidth, your options for dealing with abusive commenters include, and this is in increasing order of how much I like the feature: (0) disable comments on the entry (but that will hide all comments on the entry) (1) freeze the comment thread (2) ban the logged-in user (3) disable anonymous comments on either the entry or your account (4) lock the post so only logged-in users you've explicitly granted access to can view it (5) delete the offending comment(s) (compare: tumblr reblog comments) (6) report the comment to Dreamwidth staff, who actually care about stopping harassment and being Nazi-unfriendly and etc

also Dreamwidth is so much easier to read long posts on than Tumblr is

What they said. Dealing with the unwanted comments is SO much easier here, and most people from the Hellsite (affectionate) won't probably even click the link. (I know I don't, unless I'm SURE it's a rickroll. Yes, I'm weird.)

Posting it here seems like a good compromise if you really want to get the thoughts out there and start a discussion.

100% post it here. It's a topic that is bound to have interesting conversations and even for your readers it will be better to have it here, where one can actually read it in a somewhat coherent manner rather than in... the absolute mess that is tumblr.

I'd love to read something like that! But yeah, take care of you, because you don't deserve hate mobs. Here seems like a great place to share something like that, but yeah, definitely a smaller audience.

I personally would love to read something like that, and it would certainly be a useful tool to reference whenever I'm having discussions about fandom and antis with folks as well. I think that it's something you could write up and post here and link over on tumblr, although keep in mind this won't stop dedicated antis from harassing you if they really want to (if you haven't dealt with really sustained harassment then this might not be a big issue, I just know at least one person in my fandom who has had antis sneak into their locked accounts to get "receipts" of why they are bad—in this case, being nominaly pro-ship. :\)

I would love to read it! And it is so much easier to mod comments over here. If you do link it on Tumblr, the anti are unlikely to click through to read it... but they might reblog and whine without reading it. That's OK, turn off anon in advance, delete the original Tumblr post if need be and you still have your hard-written essay here. On a post you can also make access only if you have to.
